Tension has been recently building up in Dara’a province amidst calls for mass protests against the Assad regime and its backers who retook control of the region in 2018.
The calls came in response to the brutal execution of three young men by the Assad regime which kidnapped the victims a few days ago. The calls also came in response to continued assassinations and arrests of former Free Syrian Army fighters and activists in the revolutionary movement.
In a video published on social media on Monday, member of the Central Committee in the Dara’a Province, Sheikh Faisal Abazid, called on the people of the region to “speak up against injustice.”
Protests have broken out in many parts of Dara’a province in recent months coupled with increasing attacks on the regime’s military positions and security services as well as assassinations of persons accused of collaborating with the regime’s security apparatuses.
