The Syrian Center for Journalistic Freedoms of the Association of Syrian Journalists said it recorded four violations against media workers in Syria in September, adding that the gravest of these violations were committed by the Assad regime in Idlib province.
In a report issued on Saturday, the Center pointed out that journalist Iyad Mohammed Abu al-Joud was injured in artillery shelling by regime forces in the village of Ma’atret Hurma in rural Idlib. It added that the Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham militant group committed two violations, while the PYD militia committed one violation.
The report indicated that three violations took place in Idlib province, while one more took place in al-Hasaka province.
The Center noted that violations against media workers in Syria continued despite the announcement of a ceasefire in the de-escalation zone in northwestern Syria.
The Center called for respecting freedom of the press; ensuring the safety of media workers; and holding those responsible for violations to account.
It also called for respecting article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which stresses that “everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.” (Source: Syrian Coalition’s Media Department)
