The security services of the militia of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) have launched a random arrests campaign against young people in the city of Hasaka for compulsory conscription.
The PYD security forces, known as the Asayish forces, are detaining military-aged people in the neighborhoods of Ghweiran and in the surroundings of the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Hasaka city. The Asayish forces have deployed more checkpoints near Al-Bairuni Bridge and the entrances to the city’s neighborhoods.
Local activists said that the Asayish militia launch similar campaigns every three months with the start of every new military training courses to detain students who fail to produce documents proving they postponed their military service.
The PYD militia had previously detained around 17 civilians in the village of Aziza north of Hasakah while they were attempting to illegally cross into Turkey and sent them to forced conscription camps.
Turkey’s Permeant Representative to the United Nations, Feridun Sinirlioğlu, said that PKK/PYD terrorists recruit and use boys and girls under the age of 15 years old in terrorist attacks.
Speaking at open session of the UN Security Council, Sinirlioğlu said that the international community must display joint and robust political determination as well as concerted action in addressing the use of children in armed conflicts. (Source: Syrian Coalition’s Media Department + Agencies)
