Despite attempts by the Russian air force to stall their counter-offensive, rebel fighters re-captured four villages in the Mount Turkmen region in rural Latakia earlier today after violent clashes with pro-regime forces and their allied foreign militias. Dozens of pro-regime militants were killed, injured or captured in the ongoing clashes.
The rebels’ counter-offensive began with capturing the town of Al-Hour, where rebel fighters seized two tanks, a BMP armored vehicle and a heavy machine gun. Six pro-regime militants, including an officer, were captured.
Rebel fighters also regained control of the village of Ghanimiyah, Al-Sheikhan Valley, and the village of Bait Miro. Scores of pro-regime militants were also killed or injured during the clashes. A colonel believed to be the commander of the regime’s offensive in rural Latakia was killed.
Rebel fighters continue to push on the positions they previously lost to regime forces that are fighting under close Russian aerial cover. (Source: Syrian Coalition)
