A monitoring group said that it had recorded at least 1,373 attacks on vital civilian facilities across Syria in 2016. The group said that regime forces and their allies were responsible for the overwhelming majority of attacks.
In a report released on Sunday, the Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) said that 761 attacks were carried out by regime forces, 437 by Russian forces, 55 by extremist groups, 43 by forces of the international anti-ISIS coalition, 31 by ISIS, 3 by unknown armed groups, and 1 by Fateh Alsham Front.
According to the SNHR report, the attacks targeted 421 civilian infrastructure facilities, 271 educational facilities, 224 houses of worship, 277 medical facilities, 109 residential blocks, 17 cultural centers, 23 aid organizations and 31 IDPs camps.
The Syrian Coalition has repeatedly condemned these attacks. It stressed that the systematic attacks on vital civilian facilities by regime forces and their relentless attempts to destroy infrastructure in Syria are aimed at undermining the peace process and force the civilian population to flee their homes and consequently bring about demographic change in Syria.
