Syrian activists have launched a campaign on social media under the title “Deir Ezzor Holocaust” to raise awareness of the mounting civilian casualties in the province as a result of the ongoing military operations being carried out by the Assad regime forces, the Russian air force, and the US-backed militias of the so-called Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
A BBC report said that Syrian activists launched the campaign to draw the attention of the international public opinion about the staggering number of civilian casualties resulting from military operations in Deir Ezzor.
BBC reported that over 7,000 tweets containing the hashtag “Deir Ezzor Holocaust” have been posted over the past 24 hours.
Activists said that hundreds of civilians have been killed in the offensive regime forces launched to drive ISIS out of the province under aerial cover from the Russian forces.
Under the pretext of fighting terrorism, hundreds of civilians have been killed in Deir Ezzor right under the eyes of the international community which turns a blind eye to the plight of civilians in Deir Ezzor, activists said.
Activists cited the horrible massacre claiming the lives of dozens of civilians who were killed in Russian airstrikes on a pontoon bridge on the Euphrates River built by fleeing civilians between the towns of Darnaj and Alashara earlier this week.
Hundreds of civilians, including women and children, were also killed as a result of operations being launched by the US-backed SDF militias.
The Syrian Coalition condemned all these “brutal” massacres, calling for the conducting of an investigation into these massacres and for holding those responsible accountable. (Source: Syrian Coalition’s Media Department)
