The Syrian Civil Defense said that the Assad regime and Russia’s intensifying onslaught on Idlib caused four massacres over the past five days. The Directorate of Education in Idlib announced the suspension of schools to protect students from the relentless bombardment.
According to the Syrian Civil Defense, the Assad regime and Russian forces committed four massacres claiming the lives of 59 civilians, among them 18 children, 14 women, and injuring more than 135 others in the period between 15-20 December.
The rescue group said that the Russian jets carried out at least 104 airstrikes on Idlib province in the same period, with the Assad regime’s air force launching 168 others. The Assad regime helicopters dropped at least 184 barrel bombs, while over 964 artillery shells and rockets pummeled around 32 locations in southern rural Idlib.
Meanwhile, President of the Syrian National Coalition, Anas Al-Abda contacted the UN Security Council’s permanent members, the UN envoy to Syria, and the Turkish Foreign Ministry to discuss the situation in Idlib as he stressed the need for a ceasefire to protect civilians.
The Coalition said that it continues to communicate with the international actors to urge them to assume their responsibilities as well as rein in the murderous regime and its allies and stop their atrocities against the Syrian people.
The Coalition renewed his warning of the consequences of the continued failure and inaction of the international community, stressing the need for all parties to shoulder their responsibilities with regards to the disaster unfolding on the ground.
