The Assad regime on Tuesday detained member of the Constitutional Committee, Mohammad Ali Sayegh, at the Al-Jadida crossing on the Syrian-Lebanese border as he was heading to Saudi Arabia to participate in the Committee’s meeting in the Saudi capital Riyadh.
In a statement, the National Coordination Commission condemned these “repressive practices” and demanded the immediate release of its representative to the Constitutional Committee.
The Commission said that the Assad regime will be responsible for “any harm that might affect Sayegh, adding that Sayegh was detained by the 279 external branch of the State Security.
The Commission stressed that the arrest of Sayegh was a clear violation of Article VI of the rules of procedure on building confidence and ensuring the security and safety of members of the Constitutional Committee. (Source: Syrian National Coalition’s Media Department)
