The Syrian Coalition’s representative to Germany Bassam al-Abdullah called upon the Friends of the Syrian People Group and sponsors of the political process to deter the Assad regime’s repeated breaches of the ceasefire agreement, especially after the horrible massacre regime forces committed in the town of Deir al-Assafir in eastern Ghouta on Thursday.
Abdullah said that this massacre had served as a reminder of the consequences of any delay in achieving the desired political transition in Syria based on forming a transitional governing body away from Assad and his clique.
Abdullah said that Bashar Assad desperately seeks to undermine the political process and brings it back to square one keeping the spiral of violence and chaos in the region to remain in power.
Germany’s Foreign Office has condemned the air strikes on the town of Deir al-Assafir that targeted a school and a hospital and which claimed the lives of 33 civilians, calling it the worst attack in Syria since the truce went into force on February 27.
The German federal government has warned of the consequences of undermining the political process through these inhumane military operations. It emphasized that the Syrian people have the right to be spared the bombardment, stressing that whoever violates this right loses the legitimacy to rule in Syria, not only in the eyes of the Syrian people, but in the eyes of the entire world.
