The Syrian National Coalition’s Secretary-General, Abdelbaset Abdullatif, on Monday met with former Head of Raqqa Provincial Council, Saad Shaweesh, and discussed with him the security and economic conditions in the safe zone east of the Euphrates.
The two sides discussed ways to expedite the launch of service institutions in the towns of Tel Abyad in rural Raqqa and Ras Al-Ayn in rural Al-Hasakah, especially in the areas of health and education. They also discussed the activation of local councils formed by people by the local population.
They also discussed the living conditions in the region and ways to boost economic growth and sustainable development, stressing the importance of the work of the Syrian Interim Government in the restoration of infrastructure and providing a suitable environment for increased economic activity.
The two sides pointed to the need for SIG to open various services centers in the areas recently liberated as part of Operation Peace Spring, which will allow the civilian population to directly contact with SIG so as to identify the needs of the people of the region.
Abdullatif earlier met with the people and dignitaries of the eastern region in order to listen to the needs of the local population and outline the Coalition’s vision which is based on enabling the local population to manage the region as well as improving security and stability.
