Secretary-General of the Syrian Coalition Abdul Ilah Fahd called upon the United States and European countries to take urgent, concrete action to stop the massacres being committed by the Assad regime and its Russian and Iranian allies in besieged eastern Aleppo.
Fahd expressed surprise at Russia’s calls for the resumption of political negotiations while the Russians are “unable to enforce the evacuation deal that covers just 2 sq km of Aleppo.” Turkey mediated a deal between the FSA and rebel fighters whereby all those trapped inside eastern Aleppo are to be safely evacuated to areas outside Aleppo. However, Russia backed out on the deal saying that Iran blocked it.
“The Russians are acting as a mercenary force under the service of the Iranian and the Assad regimes,” Fahd said.
Fahd stressed that the Coalition still nourishes hope for a unified position by the Arab and friendly countries in order to save nearly 100,000 civilians threatened by mass slaughter in eastern Aleppo. “We believe in the ability of these countries to stop the genocide in Aleppo as they have enough options to achieve this provided that there is a will to take action.” (Source: Syrian Coalition’s Media Office)
