The Syrian Interim Government’s Minister of Local Administration Muhammad Suleiman on Tuesday toured the temporary accommodation centers built in the town of Afrin to shelter civilians being displaced from Idlib province. He checked on the conditions of the IDP and listened to their most basic and urgent needs.
Suleiman was accompanied by heads of the local councils in the Afrin region who said they stood ready to help relieve the IDP.
The Ministry of Local Administration said that the continued brutal bombardment and shelling by the Assad regime and Russia on Idlib province have so far forced hundreds of thousands of people from their homes. It called for urgent action by the United Nations and international relief organizations to mitigate the effects of this humanitarian disaster.
The Ministry pointed out that the Directorate of the Affairs of Displaced Persons and the local councils took part in an urgent response initiative in the Afrin region to provide relief aid to the IDP. It added that the Directorate is working to coordinate and combine efforts to alleviate the suffering of the IDP and meet their needs.
The Ministry thanked the groups and bodies that are contributing to the provision of humanitarian assistance to the people being displaced as a result of the Assad regime and Russia’s escalating crimes. (Source: Syrian National Coalition’s Media Department)
