Assad regime forces carried out intense shelling on southern rural Idlib on Thursday, killing one civilian and injuring many others. The Syrian Coalition stressed that no justifications should be given for the Assad regime which continues to commit crimes against civilians.
Activists said that heavy rocket and artillery shelling targeted the towns of Al-Barisah, Al-Tih, Al-Khwayen, and Al-Tamana’a in the southern countryside of the province.
The town of Altamana’a was also hit with aerial bombardment by the Assad regime’s air force. The airstrikes hit the civil defense center in the town, putting it out of service. The bombings caused an exodus of civilians from the area.
President of the Syrian Coalition Abdurrahman Mustafa said that “any attempt to find justifications or give a green light to an attack on Idlib will be unacceptable.”
Mustafa also stressed the positive role being played by Turkey to prevent a military attack on Idlib. “We appreciate the efforts Turkey is making to prevent any violation and to maintain the security and safety of civilians.” (Source: Syrian Coalitions’ Media Department)
