The Syrian National Coalition’s political committee on Thursday held its regular meeting and discussed the latest on the ground developments in the ongoing onslaught being launched by the Assad regime and Russia on Idlib and the political developments.
Members of the committee stressed that Russia is still not committed to international resolutions on Syria and is committing blatant violations of human rights. They pointed out that Russia’s actions constitute an obstacle to finding a solution in Syria and to ending the suffering of the Syrian people.
The committee also discussed the results of the quartet summit hosted by London bringing together the leaders of Turkey, Germany, France and Great Britain. It stressed the importance of continued international support to reach a just solution in Syria in accordance with the international resolutions, especially the Geneva Communique of 2012 and UN Resolution 2254.
Haitham Rahma, member of the drafting body of the Constitutional Committee, briefed the committee on the work of the second session of the Constitutional Committee which ended without holding any joint sessions due to the intransigence of the regime and its setting of preconditions aimed at disrupting the work of the Committee.
Members of the committee also stressed that the Assad regime’s disruption of the work of the Constitutional Committee’s proves once again that the regime is not serious or ready to negotiate and is trying to procrastinate, noting that Russia is encouraging the regime’s behavior.
