President of the Syrian National Coalition, Anas Al-Abda, thanked the State of Kuwait for its moral and honorable stances in support of the Syrian people, expressing his hope that the State of Kuwait will carry on with its positive initiatives at the UN Security Council.
President Al-Abda sent two separate letters to the Prime Minister of the State of Kuwait, Sabah Khaled Al-Sabah, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Nasser Al-Muhammad Al-Sabah stressing the strong relationship between the two brotherly peoples. He also emphasized the important, pivotal role of the State of Kuwait in supporting the Syrian people and in their struggle for freedom, dignity, and justice.
President Al-Abda added that the Coalition always looks forward to strengthening the joint relations with the State of Kuwait. The Coalition also counts on Kuwait’s support for the just cause of the Syrian people in order to reach a political solution in Syria in accordance with international resolutions, most notably the Geneva Communique of 2012 and UN resolution 2254.
Kuwait, Germany and Belgium issued a joint statement lamenting Russia and China’s use of their veto powers to block the extension of the UN resolution on humanitarian access to Syrians in need. German Ambassador to the United Nations, Christoph Heusgen, said that “there are more than four million people in Syria in need of cross-border aid, but today they were let down by the UN Security Council. This is a sad day for the Syrian people.” (Source: Syrian National Coalition’s Media Department)
