Seif Salutes Tunisian People’s Support for Syrian Revolution as He Meets SG of Tunisian General Labor Union

President of the Syrian Coalition Riad Seif on Wednesday met with Secretary-General of the Tunisian General Labor Union, Mohamed Al-Assaad Obaid. The meeting was also attended by Head of the Coalition’s media department Ahmed Ramadan and member of the political committee Oqab Yahya.

Seif praised the Tunisian people for their honorable position in supporting the revolution of the Syrian people and their rejection of normalization of relations with the tyrant Assad regime.

"Outside powers are seeking to create an artificial opposition to take a share through negotiations," Seif said. "Russian and Iran are planning a coup against the revolution similar to that took place in Tunisia.”

Seif pointed out that foreign countries stood in the face of Syrian rebels when it was possible to overthrow the regime militarily.

As for the upcoming meeting in the Kazakh capital of Astana, Seif said that the meeting “aims to freeze the conflict militarily without going to a final political solution."

"What is happening in Syria now is a sharing of influence, not partitioning of the country which Syrians reject,” Seif went on. All Syrians reject attempts to divide the country, Seif said, noting that "the cantons that are being established in Syria will be heterogeneous with each other.” He warned that the establishment of such cantons would have dire consequences on the Syrian society.

Seif stressed that the Syrian opposition is open to dialogue with all political forces in Tunisia. "Tunisia has been one of the first supporters of the Syrian revolution. It previously sponsored the first conference held by the Syrian National Council. We need your solidarity and communication with the Syrian people."

For his part, Secretary-General Obaid said that he was "absolutely certain that the revolution will recover and that its course will be corrected." He said that thee is a need for greater communication and coordination," pointing to “smear campaigns by some sides to discredit the Syrian revolution.

Obaid stressed that his Union and civil society groups in Tunisia will continue to support and defend the Syrian revolution. (Source: Syrian Coalition’s Media Department)
