Head of the Syrian Interim Government (SIG), Abdurrahman Mustafa, participated in a seminar organized by Istanbul Aydın University under the title ‘Civil War and Constitutional Studies in Syria’ as part of the 52nd meeting of the Aydın Düşünce Platformu.
Mustafa talked about the latest on the ground and political developments in Syria as he stressed that SIG is working to ensure security, restore stability to the liberated areas, and restore life to normalcy.
Mustafa said that SIG has taken several measures recently, such as the empowerment of the local councils and improving basic services and infrastructure. He also said that such measures will allow the safe return of refugees to their country. “Restoration of stability and reaching a political solution in accordance with the Geneva Communique of 2012 and UN Security Council resolution 2254 will allow the Syrian refugees to safely return to their homeland.”
Moreover, Mustafa stressed that Operation Peace Spring achieved important, multiple goals at the lowest cost, adding that the PYD militia was occupying those areas. He said that the project of this militia was thwarted and the integrity and unity of Syrian territory was preserved thanks to Operation Peace Spring.
Mustafa reaffirmed commitment to a political solution in Syria as he stressed the importance of the full implementation of the Geneva Communique of 2012 and UN Security Council Resolution 2254 in the order they were spelled out. He made it clear that the Syrian National Coalition and its executive institutions are avidly seeking freedom and democracy and to achieve peace in Syria and get rid of tyranny and extremism.
Mustafa stressed that what is happening in Syria is a popular revolt against a dictatorial regime that committed the most heinous crimes against civilians and allowed terrorist organizations to grow and fester with the aim of putting the world in front of a tough choice: either the regime or those organizations.
