The Syrian Interim Government’s (SIG) Minister of Health Maram Al-Sheikh, sent a letter to the WHO office in the city of Gaziantep urging it to start implementing the agreed plan to prevent the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in the liberated areas.
Al-Sheikh said that all preparations were ready as the Ministry of Health has completed the tasks entrusted to it within the plan that the World Health Organization drew up about a month ago in cooperation with the Ministry of Health and organizations working in the health sector.
The Ministry of Health published instructions on how to reduce the risk of the spread of the disease, and distributed leaflets in cooperation with local councils to citizens in various villages and towns. The Minister said that the aim of these measures is to educate the citizens on the seriousness of the pandemic and the methods of prevention, primarily through personal hygiene. He pointed out that the most important point in preventing the pandemic outbreak is to break the chain of infection by protective measures only.
The Minister warned of the danger of the pandemic outbreak in the liberated areas, especially in view the mass displacement that took place over the past few months due to the Russian onslaught on Idlib province and southwestern rural Aleppo and the ensuing mass displacement of the population.
