Member of the Syrian Coalition’s political committee Abdul Ahad Steifo said that the destruction and havoc the Assad regime and Russia have wreaked on the liberated parts of Aleppo city over the past two days disprove their claims about commitment to a political solution in Syria. Steifo stressed that the bombing of hospitals by the Assad regime and Russian forces further shows they are determined to pursue a military solution to the conflict.
Activists said that five hospitals in Aleppo and its countryside went out of service after they were directly hit by violent airstrikes on Saturday. The hospitals are: Alhakeem Pediatric Hospital, Alzahraa Hospital, Albayan Hospital, and Aldaqaq Hospital in Aleppo city as well as Alatareb Hospital west of the city.
According to the Syrian Coalition’s media office, at least 823 people, including 285 children and 151 women, have been killed in Aleppo since the beginning of July. A total of 1,720 of civilians have been killed across Syria by the Assad regime and Russian forces in this period.
The Syrian Coalition’s political committee earlier on Monday held an emergency meeting to discuss the military escalation by the Assad regime and Russian forces on Aleppo.
Steifo called on the United Nations to put an end to violations carried out by the Assad regime and Russia, especially the targeting of hospitals and blockades imposed on many areas across Syria.
Facts on the ground clearly indicate that the Assad regime and its Russian and Iranian allies have chosen to carry on with the slaughter of civilians, the bombing of hospitals, and the destruction of vital civilian infrastructure, Steifo stressed.
Steifo stressed that sponsors of the political process should take this reality on the ground in Syria into account and put an end to the ongoing war crimes committed by the Assad regime and its allies against the Syrian people. (Source: Syrian Coalition)
