Syrian Coalition Commemorates 5th Anniversary of Homs “Clock Square Massacre”

On the fifth anniversary of the “Clock Square Massacre,” the Syrian Coalition called for the release of all detainees from the Assad regime's prisons, particularly children, women and the elderly.

On this day in 2011, regime forces committed a horrible massacre in Homs city when security forces opened fire on a sit-in in the Clock Tower Square in central Homs, killing and injuring dozens of unarmed protestors.

The anniversary of the massacre coincides with the anniversary of the evacuation of the French forces from Syria. Although Syria gained independence from foreign occupiers, it fell under an occupation of a different kind when Assad the father seized power after a military coup.

The Coalition said that this day marks one of the most important moments of the revolution against the murderous Assad regime which has responded brutally to the people’s demands for political reform from the outset.

The Coalition stressed that such decisive moments of the Revolution represent an opportunity to correct mistakes and renew commitment to the revolution’s goals of freedom, dignity and getting rid of tyranny. (Source: Syrian Coalition)
