A Syrian Coalition delegation led by Secretary General Abdul Ilah Fahd and member of the political committee Badr Jamous on Thursday arrived in the US to meet with US officials and diplomats. The visit began with a meeting with US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Michael Ratney in Washington DC on Thursday.
The two sides discussed the latest developments regarding Geneva negotiations which are due to begin in the coming days. The meeting discussed the opposition’s demands that the negotiations must tackle the political transition process in Syria in line with the Geneva Communiqué of 2102 and the UN Security Council resolution 2254.
The meeting focused on discussing ways to support the opposition’s delegation to the next round of negotiations in Geneva. The Coalition delegation emphasized that the transition process must begin with the formation of a transitional governing body with full executive powers, including the powers of the president.
The Coalition delegation also stressed the need to step up support for the Syrian people and the projects the Syrian interim government are developing in the liberated areas to provide services to the civilian population. (Source: Syrian Coalition’s Media Department)
