The 45th meeting of the Syrian Coalition’s General Assembly will begin on Friday, with the ongoing, grave military escalation by the Assad regime and Russian forces and the field developments in the security and stability of the liberated areas on top of the agenda.
The Coalition will discuss the UN Special Syria Envoy Geir Pedersen’s calls on Russia to maintain the cease-fire in the region and to continue to commit to it.
Tabled for discussions will be the ongoing military escalation by the Assad regime forces and their shelling of the liberated areas, especially the countryside of Idlib and Hama. Jets and helicopters as well as heavy artillery are being used in the bombings which have resulted in dozens of civilian casualties and caused a mass exodus of civilians from the area.
The General Assembly will elect a new president of the Coalition, vice presidents, a secretary-general and members of the political committee. A new head of the Syrian Interim Government will also be elected to succeed Jawad Abu Hatab.
Moreover, the General Assembly will discuss the political developments concerning the UN efforts to reinvigorate the political process and convene the Constitutional Committee and the other baskets of the Geneva process. (Source: Syrian Coalition’s Media Department)
