The Syrian Coalition warns of the risks that would result from ISIS’s advance on the ancient site of Palmyra, calling on UNESCO to act quickly to protect the site and sound the alarm of the risks resulting from the clashes between regime forces and ISIS nearby.
Spokesman calls upon the Syrian Coalition Salem al-Meslet also calls on the Syrian interim government and the Syrian people to seriously work on protecting the cultural heritage of Syria in parallel with fighting the Assad regime and ISIS.
Meslet denounces the how the Assad regime placed its military positions in such historical sites, unmindful to the cultural disaster that may ensue because of the battles around the city. He also warns that the artifacts present at Palmyra are under the threat of destruction or pillage, pointing to the need to protect this important cultural heritage. (Source: Syrian Coalition)
