President of the Syrian Coalition Riad Seif participated in a meeting of the local councils that was held in the Turkish city of Gaziantep on Wednesday along with head of the Syrian Interim Government (SIG) Jawad Abu Hatab and members of the Coalition’s political committee.
Participants discussed ways to improve performance as well as the latest field and political developments in Syria, especially the continued crimes by the Assad regime and its allied terrorist militias against Syrian civilians.
Seif gave an overview of the mechanisms that was established to increase the representation of local councils inside the Coalition following as part of the reform packages that the Coalition’s General Assembly adopted in its latest meeting.
Seif also gave an overview of the latest field and political developments in Syria, stressing the need to activate the role of local councils along with the Coalition, SIG, the Coalition’s Assistance Coordination Unit (ACU), and the armed opposition.
Seif said that the current phase poses serious challenges that require the advancement of the opposition institutions to express the fundamental principles of the Syrian revolution. He added that these challenges require all opposition forces to remain united in the trench of the Syrian revolution; preserve the unity of Syria; and meet all the challenges.
