Nasr al-Hariri, member of the political committee, said that “we are not surprised by Russian’s objection to Obama administration’s decision to support the moderate Syrian rebels as it strips the Assad regime and his allies of the pretext under which they have been waging a genocidal war against the Syrian people. Washington has not budgeted this aid to support the terrorist groups, as it is fully aware of the threat posed by these groups on Syria and the regions as a whole. The U.S decision to support Syria’s rebels was prompted by the Assad regime’s fostering of terrorist groups in Syria and abroad, most notably ISIS, Hezbollah and Abu al Fadl al Abbas Brigade.” Al-Hariri also said that “the United States’ hesitation to make this decision opened the way for the Assad regime to create these terrorist groups. Therefore, the best way to eliminate terrorism, represented by ISIS and its sister groups, is through getting rid of Assad and his gangs who are in fact the pillars of terrorism. Obama’s decision has been welcomed by the U.S Congress and a lot of American politicians who have long called for empowering Syrian mainstream rebels.” Furthermore, Al Hariri slams the Russian calls of the Assad regime to combat terrorism, as Assad’s definition of terrorism includes all those who are opposed to him, even peacefully. The Russians must reconsider their reading of the situation in Syria more realistically and with any bias if they were want to see and end to terrorism.” (Source: Syrian Coalition)
