The delegation of the Syrian Negotiations Commission held a number of meetings with delegations of the UN Security Council’s permanent members in New York City on Tuesday to discuss ways to ensure full, urgent implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2401.

Member of the delegation Hadi al-Bahra stressed the need for the UN Security Council to ensure a cessation of hostilities for 30 consecutive days. He also stressed the need for the establishment of monitoring mechanisms and punitive measures to ensure the delivery of humanitarian and to the besieged areas.
Bahra pointed out that the introduction of aid must be sustained, stressing the need for the evacuation of the wounded and sick from the besieged areas, especially from eastern Ghouta.
Bahra pointed out that war crimes are being committed on a large scale in eastern Ghouta with the aim of displacing the local population and changing the demographic landscape in the Damascus suburb.
For their part, the French and Turkish UN ambassadors reaffirmed their country’s commitment to the implementation of UN resolution 2401. They said that the establishment of a comprehensive ceasefire is a decisive step towards achieving a lasting political solution as they rejected all policies aimed at forced displacement and demographic change.
