The office of the Syrian National Olympic Committee held its first founding conference for Syrian sportspeople and athletes in the headquarters of the Baytna Syrian organization in the Turkish city of Gaziantep. The move will be the beginning of similar conferences that will be held in the liberated areas and Turkish cities with the aim of organizing the Syrian sports activities and ensure the rights of Syrian clubs and athletes.
The conference was chaired by the Secretary-General of the Syrian Olympic Committee, Ahmed Al-Ali and was attended by the president and members of the Olympic Committee office in Gaziantep, in addition to athletes representing all sports.
The move came as part of the strategy and work plan of the Syrian National Olympic Committee aimed at developing and expanding the scope of sports activities, accrediting clubs, organizing activities, tournaments and events as well as offering courses for coaches and referees, and organizing club activities.
The conference discussed the work of the Office in the past year. Secretary Mohamed Qurunful, head of the office, Zakaria Hamdak, gave an overview of the programs and plans of the office. They also briefed the attendees on the mechanism for organizing the sports activities as well as the formal affiliation of clubs and athletes and setting up an archive for athletes in order to safeguard the rights of clubs and athletes.
The attendees put forward suggestions about the work program. They also discussed the work plan for the year 2020, the most prominent of which was holding a football league in the liberated areas and the provision of infrastructure and equipment for stadiums and gyms.
