The United States will not be satisfied until it sees “a solid and stable Syria,” the US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley said, adding that that cannot be achieved “with Assad in place.”
Speaking at a White House briefing on Friday, Haley said that “Iran is not going to be in charge, and Iran is not going to have any sort of leadership in that situation to where they could do more harm.”
The United States will continue to “be very effective and be a part of that process” to get to a resolution in Syria, Haley added. The US “is a very strong partner in the resolution for Syria and will continue to be until we know that everything is stable.”
The United States earlier expressed concern about Iran’s growing influence in Syria and the spread of its militias in large areas of the country. It also expressed reservation about Tehran’s participation in the Astana meetings aimed at the establishment of “de-escalation zones” in Syria. (Source: Syrian Coalition’s Media Department + Agencies)
