Vice-president of the Syrian Coalition, Badr Jamous, said that the Transitional Government Body should be the cornerstone of the comprehensive political transition process as was set out in the international resolutions on Syria, most notably the Geneva Communiqué and UN Security Council Resolution 2254.

In a special statement on Tuesday, VP Jamous pointed out that the Syrian Coalition is seeking to find a sustainable political solution under the auspices of the United Nations and in accordance with the international resolutions forming the basis of the negotiating rounds in Geneva.

Jamous explained that the new international envoy to Syria, Geir Pederson, talked about the need for a comprehensive political process early in his mission. Jamous described Pedersen’s remarks as “encouraging,” noting that the Coalition supports such vision as it corresponds with its vision of a political solution.

Furthermore, Jamous said that the Coalition’s vision is based on the demands of the Syrian people and the enormous sacrifices they have made over the past eight years. He added that constitutional process, elections and the Transitional Governing Body together form a comprehensive package that in turn constitutes a process of a comprehensive political transition.

“We are well aware that the Assad regime is trying to empty the political process of any meaning by evading to engage in the process of political transition," Jamous said. He stressed that such tactics will not result in a lasting, real political solution serving the interest of the Syrian people. (Source: Syrian Coalition’s Media Department)
