Press Statement
Badr Jamous
Syrian Coalition Secretary General
May 19, 2014
Residents of Manbej, rural Aleppo, took to the streets yesterday Sunday, just like they did in March 2011, to express their rejection of repression, represented this time by the extremist Islamic State in Iraq and al Sham (ISIS). Demonstrators got fired at by ISIS, which also arrested a number of young protesters in the town.
Despite the brutality of the Assad regime throughout the past three years, revolutionary forces have always remained committed to the guiding principles of the revolution and rejected extremism and oppression. However, more support is needed to enable the Syrian people to achieve democratic transition. We call for increased support to mainstream revolutionary forces defending civilians aspiring to build a democratic and pluralistic free Syria.
