Members of Assad’s Air Force have carried out physical assaults against female prisoners according to news leaked from Damascus Central Prison (Adra). The news came three days after female prisoners declared a hunger strike demanding their cases to be brought to court.
When the hunger strike was announced, The Syrian Coalition issued a warning about the high potential that Assad would commit further human rights violations in retribution against these brave political prisoners.
Now that Assad’s crimes have been confirmed, The Syrian Coalition reiterates its call upon Human Rights Organizations to assume their responsibilities and investigate the conditions of female and male prisoners in Adra, as well as in all of Assad’s notorious prisons.
The Syrian Coalition also calls on the international community to pressure Assad to release all political prisoners. The fate of these prisoners depends on the world’s response to their suffering and we urge the international community to act immediately in order to prevent further violations of human rights.
We ask for Mercy for our martyrs, health for our wounded, and freedom for our detainees.
Long live Syria and its people, free and with honor.
