The opposition’s security apparatus in the city of Idlib said that fighter jets, believed to be Russian, bombed the women’s prison and residential areas in the city and its countryside after midnight on Saturday. Bunker-buster bombs were used in the airstrikes that killed and wounded dozens of civilians.
The Syrian Coalition condemns targeting civilian buildings and residential areas, stressing that this crime violates the Fourth Geneva Convention.
The Syrian Coalition calls upon the UN Security Council to condemn this crime and to assume its responsibilities to protect civilians, hold war criminals accountable, and work to prevent any recurrence of such attacks on populated areas.
These crimes of deliberately targeting civilians are clearly aimed at undermining the negotiating process and all chances of reaching a political solution.
