Coordinator of the Syrian National Coalition’s Department of Foreign Relations, Abdulahad Astepho, met with Belgian Special Envoy for Syria, Ambassador Marc Otte, and the EU Syria Team at the EU headquarters in the Belgian capital, Brussels.
The meeting came as part of the international campaign being launched by the Coalition which sent several delegations to European capitals and the United Nations with the aim of putting pressure on the international community to bring an end to the Russia and Assad regime’s onslaught on Idlib and rural Aleppo.
The meeting focused on the need to take urgent action to address the humanitarian tragedy unfolding in Idlib; provide humanitarian support to the IDP; and adopt a resolution to establish a ceasefire and protect civilians.
Astepho reaffirmed the role of Belgium and the European Union countries at the UN Security Council as he urged the drafting of a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate end to the Russian- Iranian assault on Idlib and rural Aleppo, the implementation of international resolutions on Syria, especially the Geneva Communique of 2012 and Resolution 2254, and the imposition of sanctions on violators and those who disrupt the political process under Chapter VII of the UN Charter.
