President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Salem Al-Meslet, met with the Maltese Minister for Foreign and European Affairs Ian Borg and the Permanent Representative of Malta to the United Nations, Vanessa Fraser in New York on the sidelines of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The meeting brought together President of the Syrian Negotiations Commission Badr Jamous, Head of the Syrian Interim Government Abdurrahman Mustafa, and members of the Syrian Negotiations Commission Fadwa Al-Ujaili and Ibrahim Berro.
The two sides discussed the latest field and political developments in Syria, the developments in the Ukrainian war and its impact on Syria, and the negative role of Russia in the Security Council through its support for dictatorships around the world and its disruption of the Security Council through its repeated use of the veto.
The discussions also stressed the importance of cooperation to support the renewal of UN Resolution 2462 on the cross-border entry of humanitarian aid to Syria. They also stressed the importance of pushing the political process forward to implement UN resolutions, especially the Geneva Communique of 2012 and UN Resolutions 2118 and 2254, especially as Malta will become a member of the Security Council next year.
