US President Donald Trump on Thursday warned the Assad regime, Russia, and Iran against carrying on with their brutal onslaught against civilians in Idlib as he demanded that they stop the killing of innocent civilians.
The warning came as large-scale war crimes are taking place in Idlib as a result of the escalating assault on the province by the Assad regime and Russian forces who are deliberately bombing residential areas, public facilities, medical facilities, and columns of fleeing civilians.
“Russia, Syria, and Iran are killing, or on their way to killing, thousands of innocent civilians in Idlib Province. Don’t do it!”, President Trump tweeted. “Turkey is working hard to stop this carnage,” he added, referring to Turkey’s role in bringing an end to the bombing campaign on Idlib in the past two days.
The Syrian National Coalition, meanwhile, is holding extensive contacts with friendly and sisterly states to mobilize a serious international position with regards to the regime’s assault on Idlib. The Coalition is seeking an immediate ceasefire and the swift launch of a real political process in accordance with international resolutions, most notably the Geneva Communique of 2012 and UN Security Council Resolution 2254.
The Coalition is also communicating with international organizations and donors to secure urgent humanitarian aid to those in need and avert a major humanitarian disaster.
Human rights groups stressed that the escalating military operations have so far caused hundreds of civilian casualties and displaced hundreds of thousands more from their homes. (Source: Syrian National Coalition’s Media Department)
