Biography of Anas Abdah

Education: BA in Geological Studies and a Master's in Geophysics.

Anas Abdah studied geology at Yarmouk University in Jordan and he did a Master's in geophysics at Newcastle University in the UK. He worked with international companies specialized in the field of information technology.

Abdah and a number of political activists inside and outside Syria founded the Movement for Justice and Development in 2006 as a Syrian movement opposing the regime of Bashar al-Assad. He also joined the Damascus Declaration and served as a representative of the Declaration abroad.

After the outbreak of the Syrian uprising, Abdah contributed to efforts aimed at the unification of the Syrian opposition in 2011 by co-founding the Syrian National Council. He was elected to the membership of the Council’s Secretariat. He later joined the Syrian National Coalition when it was founded in late 2012.

Abdah was elected a member of the Syrian Coalition’s political committee for more than one term. He was a member of the opposition’s negotiating delegation to the Geneva II conference in 2014. Abdah was elected as Secretary of the political committee in the period between July 2015 and March 2016. He was also elected as president of the Syrian Coalition from March 2016 to May 2017.

Abdah’s vision for a solution in Syria:
Abdah believes that any solution in Syria must achieve the aspirations of the Syrian people and ensure they regain all their rights. Abdah’s vision is enshrined in founding principles of the Syrian Coalition and is in line with the values and guiding principles of the Syrian revolution.

Abdah maintains that the formation of a transitional governing body with full executive powers, where Bashar al-Assad and the pillars of his regime do not have any role, is essential to achieving the aspirations of the Syrian people. Abdah also insists on the need for a democratic transition through a just political solution.
