Syrian National Coalition – Syria

The Syrian National Coalition strongly condemns Russia and China’s use of their vetoes to block a UN Security Council resolution drafted by Belgium, Kuwait, and Germany that would have extended for a year cross-border humanitarian aid to millions of Syrians.
The blocking of the UN resolution amounts to partnership in the continued suffering of millions of Syrian civilians and the crimes taking place against them. It places those who used the veto in the same position as the Assad regime which is using all types of conventional weapons and chemical weapons, killing and displacing millions of Syrian civilians.
The delivery of relief aid through the border crossings that are outside the control of the Assad regime is the best and only viable option for millions of Syrians. It is the duty of the international community to insist on this option. The delivery of humanitarian aid must not be done exclusively via the regime-held border crossings as it is using these to humiliate citizens and fund its war on the Syrian people.
It is imperative that the international community directly intervene and prevent the results of this move from affecting the Syrian people; develop alternative international mechanisms to introduce aid by all available means; and put an end to the suffering of the Syrian people.
