Erdogan: We are Working to Help Make in Syria and Iraq

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said that "the year 2014 saw pain and suffering reached a peak in the region, particularly in Syria and Iraq," pointing to “the indifference of the world to what is happening there." He stresses that that "his country has made and is still making every effort so that peace prevails in Syria and Iraq. We have adopted an open-door policy in front of our brethren refugees fleeing their homes in Syria and Iraq as we see in this a human duty.” It is worth noting more than 7.3 million Syrian have been internally displaced as a result of the ongoing war, while more than three million fled to neighboring countries, with Turkey hosting around 1.2 million. Valerie Amos, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, said that Syria’s children and women are suffering too much, and that one in every five refugees around the world is Syrian.
