Kuwait: Political Solution Remains Only Viable Solution in Syria

The State of Kuwait reiterated that a political solution remains the only viable solution in Syria and one that meets the aspirations of the Syrian people in line with the Geneva Communique of 2012.

In a speech before the 39th Session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva on Monday, Kuwait’s Permanent Envoy to the UN, Ambassador Jamal Al-Ghunaim, called for paying more attention to humanitarian needs such as allowing safe and sustainable access to humanitarian, medical aid and preventing blockade of residential areas.

The State of Kuwait strongly condemns organized and dangerous human violations facing Syrian people in their country, Al-Ghunaim said.

Al-Ghunaim expressed Kuwait’s rejection of continued and deliberate attacks on innocent civilians and the use of prohibited weapons. He stressed the need for the international community to address the crimes against humanity taking place in Syria constituting blatant violations of the international law and human rights law.

Al-Ghunaim condemned repeated attacks on medical facilities, infrastructure, as well as indiscriminate use of heavy weapons and aerial bombardment, the victims of which are often innocent civilians.

Moreover, Al-Ghunaim pointed out that the international community should work on preventing further humanitarian repercussions and "sparing the sisterly country more pain, suffering and displacement."

Al-Ghunaim renewed Kuwait’s call for a free, unhindered access of the United Nations and humanitarian bodies to all Syrian areas, including immediate access to besieged regions in order to deliver humanitarian aid to civilians.

Al-Ghunaim appealed to all countries that have made pledges in the six conferences that were held on Syria to honor their obligations and support the brotherly Syrian people inside Syria and abroad. (Source: Syrian Coalition’s Media Department)
