Syria’s Civil Defense Chief: Russia Must Stop Lying About Situation in Syria
Director of the Syrian Civil Defense Corps Raed Al-Saleh said that Russia must stop lying about the situation in Syria, stressing that jets of the Assad regime and Russia were targeting civilians as well as healthcare facilities and other vital civilian centers.
"If Putin really wants to push for a solution in Syria, Russian warplanes must stop bombing hospitals, schools, the White Helmets and public markets," Saleh said in an interview with Deutsche Welle (DW) on Friday.
Saleh pointed out that "the United Nations confirmed that Russian aircraft launched thousands of airstrikes targeting civilians, public markets, hospitals, schools and residential areas in Syria."
"Russia’s propaganda machine has been recently pushing for the return of Syrian refugees to what it describes a ‘safe areas.’ No civilians returned to their homes in Aleppo, Homs, Darayya, and eastern Ghouta months after these cities and towns fell to the Assad regime and Russian forces.”
President of the Syrian Coalition Abdurrahman Mustafa on Friday said that Russia is still trying to deny the existence of a political problem in Syria and seeking to impose its will on the Syrian people by "the force of arms.”
“The daily revealing of the facts on the Assad regime’s war crimes and crimes against humanity will burden Russia with greater responsibility as it is the guarantor of the regime and its defender at the UN Security Council,” Mustafa said. He cited the Assad regime’s recent issuance of death notices for thousands of detainees who died under torture in its prisons. (Source: Syrian Coalition’s Media Department)
