UN Says Targeting Medical Facilities & Civilian Infrastructure in Deir Ezzor “Unacceptable”

The United Nations said that it continued to receive “disturbing reports” of airstrikes targeting the civilian population in the province of Deir Ezzor.

“Our humanitarian colleagues continue to receive disturbing reports of airstrikes harming the civilian population in Syria’s Deir Ezzour Governorate,” UN Spokesman Stephane Dujarric told reports on Friday.

“Yesterday, airstrikes reportedly hit a field hospital in the area, killing and injuring scores of civilians, including women, children and medical staff,” Dujarric added.

Dujarric also said that “airstrikes also reportedly hit the prison of Al-Kashma village, near Deir Ezzour on 28 November, killing and injuring prisoners and civilians.”

“We remind all parties to this conflict of their obligations under international humanitarian law to protect civilians, including medical workers.”

The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) meanwhile said that at least 241 civilians, including 28 children and 23 women, were killed in Russian and Assad regime’s attacks on crossings on the Euphrates River.

A new report by the Network indicated that at least 20 river crossings were attacked by three main parties, noting that all these crossings are located in the province of Deir Ezzor, without specifying when these attacks took place.

According to the report, the Assad regime forces killed 98 civilians, including seven children and nine women. Russian forces killed 143 civilians, including 21 children and 14 women. The attacks caused 15 massacres, nine of which were committed by the Assad regime, and six by Russian forces. (Source: Syrian Coalition’s Media Department)

Preserving independence and national sovereignty and maintaining the Syrian people’s unity within the same Syrian soil
is one of the critical pillars of the Syrian Coalition. The Coalition aims to overthrow the Assad regime along with all its
symbols and pillars. It also aims to dismantle its security apparatus and hold accountable those involved in crimes
against Syrians. In addition, it seeks to achieve a transition to a pluralistic, democratic and civil Syria.
