Syrian National Coalition – Syria

Over the past few years, the Assad regime has depleted Syria’s resources in its war against the Syrian people after it wrecked the economy by corruption and theft. The Syrian people are facing a new catastrophe with each additional day in the life of this regime, whether those living in the liberated areas or those who are still in the regime-held areas, including the regime’s loyalists.
The downward spiral of the Syrian pound, the Central Bank’s lack of foreign exchange reserves, the crippling blows to the industry sector, the sharp deterioration of the agriculture sector, and the erroneous administrative decisions all portend an imminent economic meltdown, the responsibility for which lays squarely with the regime’s policies. The collapse of the economy resulting from the regime’s dreadful policies will worsen the suffering of ordinary citizens while allowing the regime-linked war profiteers to accumulate more wealth.
The Assad regime has always used livelihood as a tool to put pressure on the Syrian citizens, exploiting their diligence and ability to produce and innovate. It forced them to enter a vicious cycle of soaring inflation, rampant corruption, and predation in order to compel those who remain alive to give up their rights and aspirations.
All these indicators support the position of the Syrian National Coalition in this regard as they are consistent with the UN Security Council resolutions. This reality confirms that there is no way out of the economic crisis and the rest of the crises and disasters that the regime inflicted on Syria except through a political solution that restores security and stability; achieves a genuine political transition in line with UN Resolution 2254; transitions the country to a true democracy; and guarantees freedom, justice, and dignity.
