Int’l Community Still Obliged to Protect Syrian People

Press release

The terrorist bombings that ripped through the countryside of Aleppo on Saturday killing three people and wounding dozens more in the towns of al-Bab and Azaz coincided with a new crime committed by the Assad regime’s air force claiming the lives of 11 and injuring dozens more in the town of Ariha in rural Idlib.

This coincidence and the escalating crimes and terrorism against the Syrian people shows once again that the Syrian people are facing a terrorist alliance comprising all forms and manifestations of terrorism. This tragic reality is being perpetuated by utter international silence.

The blood of the Syrian people continue to be shed, their country destroyed, and the youth detained and displaced. Crimes affect the Syrian people on a daily basis. The international community is still unable to intervene to stop this carnage. The major players continue to remain silent about the tragedy affecting the Syrian people as if the continuation of this tragedy is in the interest of those States.

Towns and villages in the provinces of Hama, Idlib and Lattakia are being subjected to relentless shelling by the Assad regime and the Russian occupation’s air forces. The death toll continues to rise. The international community is responsible for the continued crimes on the ground and for the stalled political solution.

The international community has a responsibility to put an end to the Assad regime and Russia’s crimes. The Syrian Coalition calls upon the United Nations and the UN Security Council, headed by the major states, to intervene immediately to stop attacks and crimes and ensure protection for the Syrian civilians as well as to prevent the ongoing terrorism against them and work on reinvigorating the political process in accordance with the international resolutions.
