US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, renewed his country’s call for Iran to withdraw from all Syrian territory, not only from the southwest as he welcomed Germany’s recent decision to designate Hezbollah as a terrorist group.
In a press conference on Wednesday, Pompeo said: “The Iranians need to leave. They need to leave not only the southwest corner, but more broadly throughout the country.” He stressed that the Iranian regime needs to take care of its own people.
“We hope that they’ll rethink that and get back to doing what Iran needs to do, which is to take care of its own people in this very difficult time inside the Islamic Republic of Iran. We think those resources could be much better used to support the Iranian people,” the US top diplomat added.
Pompeo also stressed that “anyone conducting business with Iranian entities should exercise extreme caution to ensure that they are not working with the IRGC.” He commended Germany’s recent decision to ban the Lebanese Hizballah and take strong action against suspected Hizballah supporters, expressing his hope that all other EU member states will follow suit.
President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Anas Abdah, earlier this week told SY24 news outlet that Iran poses a serious threat to Syria, the Arab countries, and beyond.
President Abdah stressed that the Iranian regime operates the largest international multinational terrorist organization that serves a sectarian, subversive, and expansionist project. He pointed out that all these countries have a responsibility to confront this threat an rid the Iranian people and the world of the Iranian viscous regime.” (Source: SOC’s Media Department)
