US President Barack Obama said on Tuesday that it is impossible to stabilize Syria with Bashar Assad in power, as he hosted Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani in the Oval Office.
“We both are deeply concerned about the situation in Syria. We’ll continue to support the moderate opposition there and continue to believe that it will not be possible to fully stabilize that country until Assad, who has lost legitimacy in the country, is transitioned out,” Obama said.
President Khoja said earlier that the Assad regime is by no means a partner in the war on terror nor will it be. It is the real source of terrorism in Syria, and the threat of terrorism will not disappear from the region unless its sponsor, namely the Assad regime’s security apparatuses, is dealt with and dissolved. The Assad regime has played a vital role in drawing in extremist organizations, including Hezbollah, which continue to perpetrate crimes against the Syrian people. The Assad regime has also paved the way for terrorist organizations to grow and fester, and provided them with air cover whenever they clashed with the Free Syrian Army (Source: Syrian Coalition + Agencies)
