The United Kingdom Mission to counter terrorism posted a video on its Twitter account of Assad’s use of barrel bombs. The mission tweeted that barrel bombs continue to kill civilians in Syria, calling on Assad’s supporters to press him to stop using these indiscriminate weapons.
Yesterday, the mission said Assad’s use of barrel bombs has risen by 50% in October and called on the Assad regime to stop using indiscriminate weapons.
In an interview with Al-Arabi al-Jadid newspaper, Farah Dakhlallah, the Arabic spokeswoman for Britain’s Foreign Office reaffirmed the Kingdom’s position that it does not see any role for Bashar al-Assad in Syria’s future. She stated Assad must go as part of political transition process in Syria.
In a joint statement released earlier this month, President Khoja and UK’s Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond stress “Bashar al-Assad has no place in Syria’s future.”
“We share the view that credible negotiations, leading to a political transition, are the only way to solve the conflict, end the terrible suffering of the Syrian people and defeat ISIL. This new political process offers an opportunity to make genuine progress towards Syrian-led negotiations supported by the international community,” the statement said.
“Tackling the humanitarian consequences of the conflict is vital – most importantly bringing an end to attacks on civilians and civilian areas, particularly through the Assad regime’s indiscriminate use of barrel bombs – alongside efforts to restart political negotiations.” (Source: Syrian Coalition)
