The National Council of Resistance of Iran’s Security and Anti-terrorism Committee admitted that the number of IRGC elements in Syria has reached at least 5000. This is in addition to tens of thousands of Hezbollah forces, Iraqi militia as well as Afghan and Pakistani hirelings who are working under IRGC command killing innocent people in Syria.
The Committee also revealed the IRGC has so far suffered huge losses in Syria. It also published the names of 16 IRGC brigadier generals killed so far in battles against rebel fighters in Syria.
The Committee added that following repeated defeats Iran suffered in Syria, which escalated in the winter of 2014, the Iranian regime sought Russian assistance to provide aerial cover through bombardment, with the aim of enabling its revolutionary guards, Hezbollah and Iraqi militias, Afghan and Pakistani mercenaries, and the remainder of Assad’s forces to make ground advances. However, two months into some of the most intense bombings, where thousands of civilians have been killed, the Assad regime failed to make significant gains. On the cotrary, it has sufferes serious defeats and was forced to withdraw from a number of areas.
The committee also said that the IRGC militiamen are deployed in Aleppo, Latakia, Dara’a, and Idlib, adding that their main role is preventing Syrian rebels from reaching Assad’s heartland in Latakia as well as stopping rebel fighters in the Damascus suburb to prevent the fall of the regime in the capital. The Committee further said that the IRGC does not have any elements in areas that have seen clashes with ISIS. (Source: Syrian Coalition)
