Syrian Coalition
November 12, 2016
The Syrian Coalition was deeply saddened to hear of the death of scholar Mohammed Suroor Zain Abidin at the age of 78. Abidin devoted his life to the defense of the right and just causes of the Islamic nation. He was also a devoted supporter of the Syrian people.
Abidin wrote many books that advocated moderation and rejected extremism and isolationism.
Abidin was known for his pragmatic views and his rejection of passive ones. He established a trend that combined politics and sharia studies, and was best known for his ardent opposition to the extremist Khomeini ideology since the early 1980s.
Syria, the Arab world and Muslims across the world have lost a great symbol of moderation and an outstanding intellectual who left behind a distinctive mark along the path of the Syrian revolution.
May he rest in peace.
May the revolution for freedom and dignity emerge victorious.
We belong to Allah and to Him we shall return.
