Dozens of Muslim scholars called on the Islamic nation to end division and unite to support Aleppo against the Assad regime and its allies.
At a panel discussion held in Istanbul on Tuesday under the theme: The Nation behind Aleppo, the scholars called for Islamic countries to step up support for residents of Aleppo in light of the atrocities being committed in the city by the Assad regime forces and their allies.
Secretary-General of the International Union for Muslim Scholars Ali Qaradaghi said that Aleppo is coming under brutal onslaught by the Assad regime, Russia, and the Iranian-backed foreign militias, but the city can be liberated if rebel and FSA fighters were to unite.
The executive committee of International Union for Muslim Scholars is due to hold an extraordinary meeting at the level of foreign ministers in the Saudi city of Jeddah on Thursday at the request of the State of Kuwait to discuss the tragic situation in Aleppo.
The Union said that the meeting comes as part of ongoing efforts to stop the killings and genocide by the Assad regime against the Syrian people as well as to find a political settlement in Syria in accordance with the Geneva Communique of 2012.
The Arab League on Monday condemned the “practices” of the Assad regime and its allies in Aleppo. The member-states issued a final communiqué that denounced “the practices of the Syrian regime, its allies, terrorist organizations, and all those who caused suffering to the Syrian people in Aleppo.”
The Syrian Coalition has repeatedly called for a halt to all indiscriminate attacks on civilians in Syria, the protection of civilians, the lifting of the siege on Syrian towns and cities, and the release of detainees in line with international resolutions including those co-drafted and approved by Moscow.
The Coalition stressed that Iran cannot be trusted, pointing out that the Iranian-backed terrorist militias are obstructing the evacuation of civilians from eastern Aleppo and that Iran insists on pursuing a military solution in Syria. (Source: Syrian Coalition’s Media Office + Agencies)
