The verdict that the Special Tribunal for Lebanon announced on Tuesday against killers of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri was directed against individuals while sparing the parties standing behind them.
The Tribunal’s ruling confirmed that the person responsible for Hariri’s assassination belongs to Hezbollah, indicating that the Assad regime and the Hezbollah are the beneficiaries without being able to prove what many of the victims’ families were waiting for.
The Tribunal did not produce evidence directly linking the crime to the regime or Hezbollah leadership. As these two parties were and still controlling the crime scene and security in Lebanon, they are clearly responsible for removing all evidence that may implicate them.
The interference of the Assad regime and Hezbollah’s subversive role in Lebanon as a direct arm of the Iranian regime are to blame for the devastation that has afflicted Lebanon for decades. This tyrannical, terrorist gang continues to pursue policies aimed at bringing destruction and displacement to Syria and the region.
Salim Ayyash, a senior Hezbollah official, must be brought to justice after he was found guilty in Hariri’s assassination. The criminals Bashar al-Assad and Hassan Nasrallah must also be brought to justice for the crimes they are committing against the Lebanese and Syrian peoples.
Justice in Lebanon and Syria will be eventually achieved. The criminals will suffer fitting punishment for the crimes they are committing in the two brotherly countries. The Lebanese and Syrian peoples will regain their freedom.
